Today (September 16th), Cass Business School, announced the winner of a full MBA scholarship through a new partnership with youth charity, The Prince’s Trust.

Bronwyn Lowenthal was chosen from four finalists to receive this award. She will be commencing study this month on Cass Business School’s two-year executive MBA program on a full scholarship worth over US$65,000.

The Prince’s Trust aims to help disadvantaged young people get their lives on track. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have completed the charity’s Enterprise program and gone on to start their own business. The program’s primary aim is to help unemployed 18-30 year-olds learn the skills and gain the confidence they need to become business-owners.

Associate Dean at Cass ‘thrilled’ by quality of Prince’s Trust applicants

Dr. Sionade Robinson is Associate Dean of the MBA program at Cass Business School. She said, “We were thrilled by the quality of people who applied.” When asked whether the MBA scholarship could become a regular award, she replied, “If things go well, we’d certainly like to continue it.”

Lowenthal was awarded a low-interest loan by the trust which, coupled with the long-term support of a business mentor, enabled her to launch her own fashion business. Her business began life in 2002 as a Portobello Road market stall in London’s trendy Notting Hill neighborhood, but has now expanded to a fixed London location, retail website and wholesaler stocking other stores.

Cass aiming to build upon its ‘ethos of responsible leadership’

Dr. Robinson explained that a number of factors had played part in Cass Business School’s decision to partner with The Prince’s Trust to offer this MBA scholarship, including the school’s desire to build upon its strong “ethos of responsible leadership.”

This, in addition to the school’s ongoing research at the Cass Centre for Charity Effectiveness as well as the number of Cass experts operating in the field of entrepreneurship, led to Dr. Robinson directly approaching The Prince’s Trust after it opened its new headquarters right on the path of her morning commute. “This coming together of things led to the point where I thought we really ought to be doing something with them”, concluded Dr. Robinson.
